We’re asking listeners to share their smartest GREAT Sort tips!
G – Gifting
- Have you ever rehomed good quality clothing, textiles or other household items by gifting them to charity, selling them online, taking part in a clothing swap or some other innovative option?
- Are you part of a sharing network, like a toy library or tool library, so others in your community can use items instead of buying new?
R – Recycling
- Have you set up the clearest, tidiest recycling station at home, so everyone knows exactly where things go?
- What’s your top tip for getting ‘just the 5’ (paper, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles and containers, and glass bottles and jars) from inside the house to the yellow-lidded recycling bin outside?
E – Earth‑cycling
- Is your garden thriving since you started earth-cycling your food scraps using a compost bin, worm farm or other simple at-home solutions?
- Are you a member of a local community garden or another program where people are earth-cycling food scraps and garden waste into healthy soil?
A – Avoiding
- When you’re out and about, do you skip excess packaging and single‑use items by bringing your own reusables?
- When something breaks or wears out, do you repair it or choose a reusable instead of buying something new?
T – Taking
- When you’re decluttering or doing a spring clean, do you take batteries, electronics or chemicals to a drop-off point instead of putting them in your household bins?
- Do you make taking specialist waste to drop-offs part of your routine, such as dropping batteries off at the shop when doing a grocery run?
Maybe it’s a handy waste-sorting hack, a re-gifting trick, or a simple way to avoid single use waste! It feels good to be a GREAT Sort, and your tip could help someone else feel that too.
